Their are many genres and sub-genres in music. Illustrations within the genres tend to have a particular style catered towards the fanbase, such as pop having a commercial look, punk a rebelious look, etc. Trying to keep the illustrations universal recognisable but not genre specific would be a good way to appeal to as many of the people looking at the illustrations.
