Music and Social Networking

Thanks to music being consumed digitally, the main way musicians and artists interact with their fans outside of gigs/concerts is through social networking. Musicians can keep their fans up to date on projects, their personal life, etc.

It's also meant that nowadays, people can find much more music that would have otherwise gone unnoticed because in the past, major record labels would by and large be the ones who chose who people would listen to. Whilst that still goes on, the democratisation brought about by social networking has diversified and expanded musical consumption, allowing even the most obscure sub genre of music to have an presence.
